About the artist
The Austrian-born artist Mona Hörtnagl made Berlin her chosen home in 2015. The contrast between the urban concrete world and the landscapes of the Alps has always been the most important source of inspiration for her artistic work. In the exhibition URBANHOME Mona Hörtnagl deals with this very contrast of urbanity to wild nature. Shapes, colors and images of the city are juxtaposed and blended with the same of the countryside, the rugged mountain world.
"This piece is a redesign of a collage I did back in September 2019 after my first climbing trip to the Dolomites. I have never seen such impressive mountain ranges before. Even if it was snowy at the time and sports-climbing was exhausting due to the cold, it was super exciting to be surrounded by such beautiful nature. Even though South Tyrol is not where I grew up - climbing in the Alps while talking dialect, hand-feeding curious marmots and eating Knödel with my friends felt like home for me. On our way back to Berlin we stopped to visit the Messner Mountain Museum. It was an inspiring presentation of alpinist history and I took some pictures of the exhibits and worked with these and all my belly feelings and colorful impressions of that trip."
